Abstract
A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) device (100) includes an electrically superconductive coil having an opening to receive a subject, and a magnetically-actuated contactor 306. The magnetic contactor (306) has a ferromagnetic plunger (320) and a ferromagnetic yoke (302) disposed over the ferromagnetic plunger (320). The ferromagnetic yoke (302) has four sides, with two of the four sides (312, 316) have substantially less surface area than the other two of the four sides. An external magnetic field is oriented to be substantially perpendicularly to the two sides (312,316) having substantially less surface area.
