Abstract

A two-dimensional image pickup device picks up an image of an image pickup target specimen on a stage. The focusing device changes a distance between the objective lens and the stage. A control unit acquires a specific parameter that is used for picking up an image of the image pickup target specimen and selected according to a type of the image pickup target specimen from among a plurality of parameters, each of which is used for picking up an image of each of a plurality of types of specimens. The control unit controls the stage, the two-dimensional image pickup device, and the focusing device on the basis of the specific parameter to acquire an image of the image pickup target specimen in each of a plurality of planes at different heights from the stage at each of a plurality of positions in a plane parallel to the stage.
