Abstract

An air conditioning system (700) having: a controller (220); an energy storage device (240) including a battery pack (1010), wherein the energy storage device (240) is operable to power the air conditioning system (700); and an AC power bus (305) for connecting the air conditioning system (700) to an AC power grid (302) to selectively charge the battery pack; wherein the controller (220) is configured to: receive a request to charge or discharge the battery pack (1010) within a time window; determine whether the battery pack (1010) will remain within a predetermined operating temperature range while being charged or discharged within the time window, and responsive to a determination, either charging or discharging the battery pack (1010), pursuant to the request, or denying the request.
