Abstract

A method in using a forest work machine (1) and a forest work machine. The forest work machine comprises a boom (10) and, at the end of the boom, a wood processing device (20), which wood processing device comprises a cross-cutting device (26) for felling a tree (60, 70). The forest work machine further comprises a control system, which control system comprises at least one control unit (7) for controlling the operation of the forest work machine, the boom and the wood processing device and for storing data describing measures performed by the forest work machine to a database (40) connected to the control system. The control system identifies, based on the measures performed by the forest work machine, the making of at least one of the following: an artificial snag (62, 72) or fallen deadwood (64, 74), and stores to the database at least one of the following data: quantity or location of at least one of the following: made artificial snags or made pieces of fallen deadwood.
