Abstract

An overhead rail apparatus includes a carriage, a fixed rail, a moveable rail, and a traverse switch. The carriage is configured to support a patient above underlying ground. The fixed rail is configured to be fixed to an overhead structure. The moveable rail is configured to move relative to the fixed rail. The traverse switch is configured to align the moveable rail with the fixed rail so that the carriage can be moved along and between the moveable rail and the fixed rail.
