Abstract

Device that can be attached to a rowing boat for the collection of solid floating sea waste. The device comprises a pair of elongated arms, a net suspended from each elongated arm and a mechanical lever that the rower can use to move the elongated arms from the position parallel to each other and parallel to the longitudinal axis of the rowing boat to a position that creates an angle between them. During use, as the oarsman rows forward, the floating solid waste found in its route is gradually collected in the space between the two arms and the net. The device also includes a fastening system for placing the device on the boat and securely fastening it. Also provided is a method for the collection of solid floating sea waste using the disclosed device. Said system and method are additionally useful for the aggregation and collection of microplastic particles.
