Abstract

An image capturing apparatus that has a light emitting unit configured to emit pulsed light; and an image capturing unit configured to expose reflected light in which the pulsed light has been reflected from around a subject, and generate an image signal, performs control of a light emission timing for the light emitting unit and an exposure timing for the image capturing unit such that the image capturing unit exposes light that has been reflected from a subject in a predetermined distance range from the image capturing unit; performs predetermined calculation processing on images obtained from the image signal; and determines a calculation processing range in which the calculation processing will be performed based on the predetermined distance range.
