Abstract

A motor drive system optimizing a restricted pulse modulation schedule includes a six-phase motor has a stator with a plurality of stator phase windings separated by 30 electrical degrees such that each of the six stator phases is interleaved. A power supply supplies current to inverter(s) for the motor. The inverter has a plurality of logic gates connecting the inverter to the plurality of stator phase windings. A controller is configured with an incident energy threshold manipulates the plurality of logic gates to transmit pulse-width modulation current to the plurality of stator phase windings such that the inverter supplies current to the motor to satisfy an output requirement of the six-phase motor. The controller restricts the current to the plurality of stator phase windings such that a common mode voltage to the stator is at or below the incident energy threshold.
