Abstract

An electric machine (2, 2') comprises: a stator (21) having a first winding system (WS1) and a second winding system (WS2), wherein at least one electrical conductor (120) of the first winding system (WS1) and at least one electrical conductor (121) of the second winding system (WS2) are at least partially wound around a common winding axis (A) and alternate in a direction of the winding axis (A); a rotor (20) rotatably mounted with respect to the stator (21); and a monitoring device (14) configured to: receive torque signals indicative of a torque transmitted by the rotor (20) at various points in time and/or to receive vibration signals indicative of a vibration of the rotor (20) at various points in time and/or of a vibration of the stator (21) at various points in time; perform a comparison based on the torque signal and/or the vibration signal and based on at least one threshold; and detect a short circuit between the at least one electrical conductor (120) of the first winding system (WS1) and the at least one electrical conductor (121) of the second winding system (WS2) based on the comparison.
