Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a video display apparatus and a method of operating the same. The video display apparatus includes: a network interface configured to communicate with a server that provides a stream segment using Adaptive Bitrate Streaming; a display; a memory configured to store bitrate data; and a controller configured to output a video, corresponding to the stream segment, through the display, wherein the controller is configured to determine whether there is a first bitrate managed by the controller in response to a streaming target being set, determine a target bitrate based on the first bitrate in response to there being the first bitrate, determine the target bitrate based on a second bitrate included in the bitrate data in response to there not being the first bitrate, and request the server to transmit a stream segment corresponding to the target bitrate.
