Abstract

An elevator brake (20) for braking rotation of a shaft (12) in an elevator drive system (5), wherein the shaft (12) extends in an axial direction (A) and is rotatable around an axis of rotation (Z), comprises: a brake disc (24) mounted to the shaft (12) such as to rotate concurrently with the shaft (12); at least one movable plunger (30) that is linearly movable along the axial direction (A) between an engaged position, in which it engages the elevator brake (20), and an released position, in which it releases the elevator brake (20); an actuator that is configured for selectively moving the at least one movable plunger (30) between the engaged position and the released position; and a blocking mechanism (32, 36; 46; 46a, 46b) that is configured for preventing the at least one movable plunger (30) from moving from the engaged position into the released position if the at least one movable plunger (30) has traveled more than a predefined distance from the released position into the engaged position.
