Abstract
A method includes contacting an aqueous solution comprising one or more alkali hydroxides and water, one or more chloro carbonyl compounds or a precursor thereof, and a recovery solution comprising one or more waste polycarbonates and one or more polycarbonate solvents configured to dissolve the one or more waste polycarbonates and/or the one or more chloro carbonyl compounds to form one or more adjusted polycarbonates. A composition includes a polycarbonate polymer comprising residues of waste polycarbonate incorporated within the backbone and having branching.
