Abstract

A casing (20) for a gas turbine engine (10), including: a containment fabric layer (32) wrapped around a structural shell (28); and a bi-material shell (80) located around the containment fabric layer (32), the bi-material shell (80) formed from a plurality of bi-material shell segments (81), each of the plurality of bi-material shell segments (81) include an inner layer (82) and an outer layer (84), the outer layer (84) comprises a plurality of individual segments (85) that form the outer layer (84) and a plurality of embedded fuse lines (86) defined by the plurality of individual segments (85) of the outer layer (84), wherein an overall structure of the bi-material shell (80) does not impede a rapid expansion of the containment fabric layer (32).
