Abstract

System and method for identifying a malfunction in a peristaltic pump (110) which comprises a rotor (150) with at least one roller (140), the method comprising the steps: obtaining a first upstream pressure value at a first rotor position in which the roller is positioned away from the tubing (120); activating the peristaltic pump until the rotor reaches a second position in which the roller has completed at least one rotation; obtaining a second upstream pressure value when the rotor is in the second position; determining the pressure difference between the first and the second upstream values; and generating an alert if the determination indicates pump operation abnormality. Alternatively, the method may also identify pump malfunction by determining the pressure difference from downstream pressure values.
