Abstract

A detachable automotive fastener clip (20) and grommet (30) removably attaches a body panel to a chassis slot. A grommet base (210) having an opening and at least two laterally spaced apart wings (230) on opposite ends of the grommet base to removably engage the chassis slot. Fingers (240) and wing tips are formed at an end of the at least two wings. The wings have an engagement region to engage and detach with the chassis slot. Ramp portions (540) on the head of each wall on an end opposite the clip base engage the tapered fingers to spring open when inserted and spring inward when removed. As the clip is inserted into the opening, the shoulder on laterally spaced apart parallel walls slide past the fingers and engage the wing tips to create a spring force on the wings resulting and a retention force greater than an insertion force.
