Abstract
Provided is a polishing composition that is used in polishing a silicon material surface and capable of providing good wettability to the polished surface with reduced defects. The polishing composition comprises an abrasive (A), a basic compound (B), a random copolymer comprising a vinyl alcohol unit and an N-vinylpyrrolidone unit, and a nonionic surfactant. The nonionic surfactant has a molecular weight of below 3000. The nonionic surfactant content α (% by weight) is within the range of 0.00035 < α < 0.00500.
