Abstract
The object is to clarify the relationship between heat stress during the grain filling stage and the control of stomatal density, and thereby produce useful plants using a novel method distinct from conventional genetic engineering techniques. There is provided a method for producing a progeny plant with controlled stomatal density, comprising the step of controlling the temperature during the grain filling stage of a plant. The control of stomatal density is preferably achieved by controlling methylation of a promoter region of stomatal development related genes.
