Abstract

Disclosed is a cellular cushion (10) comprising a lower layer (20), an intermediate layer (30), an upper layer (40), and a plurality of hollow cells (50) coupled to the upper layer (40). The upper layer has a plurality of holes (45). First channels (22) are formed between the lower layer and the intermediate layer. Second channels (32) are formed between the intermediate layer and the upper layer. The hollow cells can be in fluid communication with each other through the plurality of holes of the upper layer and the second channels. The hollow cells and the holes of the upper layer are arranged on top of and aligned with the first channels, whereby, when the first channels (22) are filled with fluid and pressurized, the intermediate layer (30) is pressed towards the upper layer (40), whereby the intermediate layer (30) closes the plurality of holes of the upper layer.
