Abstract
The present invention relates to a method for producing a precursor alumina obtained from a mixed aqueous dispersion of at least two different boehmites having different crystallite sizes as measured along the 021 and the 020 direction. The precursor alumina so obtained may be calcined to obtain an alumina support. According to a further aspect of the invention, the alumina support may be treated with a modifying agent, dried, and calcined to obtain a modified alumina support. The modifying agent may be one or more compounds containing Si, Ti, a transition element, or a rare-earth element. A further aspect of the invention is the alumina support precursor, the alumina support, or the modified alumina support obtainable by the method described above and/or with certain characteristics.
