Abstract

An assembly is provided for an aircraft propulsion system (22). This assembly includes a compressor section (45; 45A; 45B), a combustor section (46), a turbine section (47), a flowpath (52), a tail cone structure (88), an electric machine (108) and an air system. The flowpath (52) includes a flowpath inlet (56) and a flowpath exhaust (58). The flowpath (52) extends through the compressor section (45; 45A; 45B), the combustor section (46) and the turbine section (47) from the flowpath inlet (56) to the flowpath exhaust (58). The tail cone structure (88) forms an inner peripheral boundary of the flowpath (52) at the flowpath exhaust (58). The tail cone structure (88) includes an internal volume (142). The electric machine (108) is disposed within the internal volume (142). The air system is configured to direct air, bled from the flowpath (52) upstream of the compressor section (45; 45A; 45B), into the tail cone structure (88) to cool the electric machine (108).
