Abstract
The invention relates to a method for determining a timing for a defrosting operation for defrosting of a heat pump unit for heating and/or cooling applications. The heat pump unit comprises an evaporator for heat exchange between air having an air temperature T<air> and a refrigerant having an evaporating temperature T<evap>, wherein a pinch P reflects a temperature difference ΔT between the air temperature T<air> and the evaporating temperature T<evap>. The method includes (1) obtaining a pinch difference ΔP indicative of a difference of the pinch at first t1 and second t2 points in time, and (2) determining the timing for defrosting including: (2a) comparing the pinch difference ΔP with a first pinch difference threshold ΔP<max>, and (2b) if the comparison indicates that the pinch difference ΔP at least reaches the first pinch difference threshold ΔP<max>, shifting the first pinch difference threshold ΔP<max> further away from a pinch difference reference ΔP<ref> relative to which the pinch difference ΔP is indicated; and (2c) using the shifted first pinch difference threshold as first pinch difference threshold ΔP<max>, and (3) continuing the determination of the timing for defrosting until a defrosting threshold DF is reached.
