Abstract

A rotating machine torque measurement system (10) includes a shaft assembly (12) and spaced sensors (14, 16). The shaft assembly (12) includes a first shaft (18) that is adapted to connect to a torque generating device (24), a second shaft (20) that has a second end that is secured to a second end of the first shaft (18), and a third shaft (22) that has a first end that is secured to a first end of the second shaft (20) and is adapted to connect to a torque receiving device (26). The first, second, and third shafts (18, 20, 22) are coaxial and can twist or angularly deform in relation to each other in response to a load applied to the shaft assembly (12). The sensors (14, 16) are positioned at the first and second ends of the shaft assembly (12) to measure angular deformation of the shaft assembly (12).
