Abstract

The invention relates to a contact assembly (1) for an electric switching device (150) for opening and closing an electric circuit (7) and to a switching device (150), such as a relay or a contactor, particularly for HV applications. In order to improve the resistance of the contact assembly (1) against high short circuit currents without compromising a compact design, the contact assembly (1) comprises two conductors (6) and two fixed contacts (10), wherein each of the conductors (6) connects to a different one of the two fixed contacts (10); and the two fixed contacts (10) are spaced apart from each other in a longitudinal direction (34); a contact bridge (2) that is configured to be movable along a switching direction (8) between an open position (14), where the contact bridge (2) is spaced apart from the two fixed contacts (10), and a closed position (12), where the contact bridge (2) contacts the two fixed contacts (10); wherein each of the two conductors (6) comprises an intermediate section (28b) extending along the contact bridge (2) in the longitudinal direction (34), a contact-carrying section (28d) providing one of the two fixed contacts (10); and an interface section (28a) for connecting the contact assembly to the electric circuit; wherein the interface section (28a) of a first conductor (6b) of the two conductors (6) overlaps the contact-carrying section (28d) of a second conductor (6a) of the two conductors and the contact bridge (2) along the switching direction.
