Abstract

In an image forming system, a controller is configured to input an operation amount for moving a carriage in a main scanning direction at a target velocity, to a motor driver based on a movement velocity of the carriage detected from an encoder signal. The motor driver is configured to apply a driving power based on the operation amount to a motor. The controller is configured to detect an abnormality in the movement velocity, a physical amount related to the movement velocity, or the operation amount, and to identify a cause of the abnormality based on an area, in a moving route of the carriage, in which the abnormality in the observed amount is detected, or based on a time period during which the abnormality in the observed amount is detected during movement of the carriage.
