Abstract
The present disclosure relates to a method for processing a carbonaceous material, comprising: (i) providing a carbonaceous material comprising carbon and a SiO<sub>2</sub>-containing solid; (ii) combining the carbonaceous material with a solid alkali reagent to provide a solid composition; (iii) heating the solid composition, thereby at least partially converting the SiO<sub>2</sub>-containing solid to a reaction product; and (iv) separating the reaction product from the carbon. The present disclosure further relates to a processed carbonaceous material which is obtainable by the method, and to the use of said processed carbonaceous material.
