Abstract

The invention relates to a method for descaling a detection device (2) of a household appliance (1), which comprises at least one component (3a, 3b, 3c), which is supplied with water during operation of the household appliance (1), wherein the detection device (2) comprises working electrodes (7a, 7b) which are arranged in a fluid path (4) of the water and are configured to detect a presence of limescale on at least one surface of the at least one component (3a, 3b, 3c). At least the steps a) bringing the working electrodes (7a, 7b) into contact with a descaling medium, b) applying a voltage to the working electrodes (7a, 7b) for a fixed time period, c) optionally waiting for a predetermined rest period, and d) applying a range of potentials to the working electrodes (7a, 7b) are performed. The invention further relates to a household appliance (1) comprising a descaling device configured to perform this method.
