Abstract

Method for thermal activation in manufacturing cement, wherein particles of a material to be activated for use as supplementary cementitious material in cements and building materials are provided with a first particle size distribution and solid heat transfer particles are provided with a second particle size distribution and either the D<10> of the first particle size distribution is at least 1.5 times the D<90> of the second particle size distribution or the D<10> of the second particle size distribution is at least 1.5 times the D<90> of the first particle size distribution, the solid heat transfer particles are mixed with the particles of the material to be activated, the mixed particles are passed into a heating zone and heated by electric heating to provide a thermally activated material, the thermally activated material and the solid heat transfer particles are withdrawn from the heating zone and the thermally activated material is separated from the solid heat transfer particles according to size, and device for thermal activation.
