Abstract
The present invention relates to a protein comprising one or more polypeptide chains, wherein said one or more polypeptide chains comprise (i) an amino acid sequence encoding a metazoan ketoacyl synthase domain and/or (ii) an amino acid sequence encoding a bacterial thioesterase domain or an amino acid sequence encoding a thioreductase domain. The present invention further relates to a nucleic acid molecule encoding the protein and to a host cell comprising the protein and/or the nucleic acid molecule. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a method for producing a fatty acid, a fatty alcohol, and/or a fatty aldehyde, and to a use of the protein, the nucleic acid molecule, or the host cell for producing a fatty acid, a fatty alcohol, and/or a fatty aldehyde.
