Abstract

A flushing system for a dead-leg pipe system comprising an automatic flush valve and, between the flush valve and a tap end of the dead-leg, one or more expansion vessels that are arranged to take in fluid from the pipe system when the fluid pressure is high, such as when no taps are turned on, and to release fluid into the pipe system when the fluid pressure in the pipe system is lower, such as when the flush valve activates. This causes fluid to move along a dead-leg portion of pipework, which helps prevent the fluid from stagnating therein. The fluid may typically be water. An expansion vessel may be built into a tap that is attached at an end of the dead-leg pipework.
