Abstract

A method (100) of controlling operation of an internal combustion engine (1) is disclosed, wherein the engine (1) comprises a number of cylinders (3), an inlet manifold (14), at least one inlet valve (18) arranged in each cylinder (3), and an inlet valve phase shifting arrangement (32). The method (100) comprises obtaining (110) a gas pressure estimate representative of the pressure in the inlet manifold (14), obtaining (120) a cylinder pressure estimate, and in response to a set of conditions being met, phase shifting (130) the timing control of the at least one inlet valve (18), by controlling the inlet valve phase shifting arrangement (32), to reduce the magnitude of the difference between the cylinder pressure estimate and the gas pressure estimate at an opening event (61) of the at least one inlet valve (18). The present disclosure further relates to a computer program, a computer-readable medium (200), a control arrangement (21), an internal combustion engine (1), and a vehicle (2).
