Abstract

An optional device connectable to a printing apparatus in multi-stage connection in one direction, comprising an auxiliary function unit configured to assist a function of the printing apparatus, and a control unit, the control unit includes an arithmetic processing unit which performs arithmetic processing for controlling the auxiliary function unit based on power received from the printing apparatus, in a case where the printing apparatus is connected to an upstream side, and a power transmission unit configured to transmit power received from the printing apparatus to another optional device connected to a downstream side, and in a case where another optional device is connected to the upstream side, the arithmetic processing unit does not perform the arithmetic processing.
