Abstract
An electrically excited synchronous machine (20) is provided, comprising: a stator (220) having a plurality of stator windings (222), a rotor (230) having a plurality of rotor windings (236), and a transformer (240) comprising a stationary primary winding (242) and a secondary winding (244) arranged on the rotor (230). The secondary winding (244) is configured to generate a field current (i<sub>F</sub>) when excited by a control current (i<sub>C</sub>) in the stationary primary winding (242). The electrically excited synchronous machine (20) further comprises: a sensor (250) in connection with the rotor windings (236) and configured to obtain sensor data (252) relating to the field current (i<sub>F</sub>) applied to the rotor windings (236), and an optical data connection (260) configured to transmit field current data (254), said field current data (254) being based on the obtained sensor data (252).
