Abstract

The invention relates to a vehicle kinetic energy absorber (1) to be positioned on a road for stopping a vehicle (100), the vehicle kinetic energy absorber (1) comprising - an impact member (10) adapted to directly receive vehicle impact, - a pair of tube members (20) connected to the impact member (10), - a pair of shear assemblies (30), each shear assembly being adapted to hold one tube member, - a slidable base (40) configured to slide on the road upon vehicle impact, and - a ballast body (50) arranged on the slidable base (40) and connected to the pair of shear assemblies (30), whereby the vehicle kinetic energy absorber (1) is configured such that, upon vehicle impact, vehicle kinetic energy may be absorbed by at least one tube member (20) being displaced along its longitudinal direction (X) and sheared by a shear assembly (30), and by the slidable base (40) sliding on the road.
