Abstract

The invention pertains to a computer-implemented method for updating the state of multiple objects for multiple clients. This method involves maintaining a global state on a server, which is stored in a heap memory arranged in pages. This global state comprises multiple objects, each with an object header that includes an object identification, a version, and a zone. The method identifies zones of interest for each client and creates a snapshot for each client, which includes updates for all objects whose zone matches one of the client's zones of interest. This snapshot is then transmitted to the client. The method is characterized by an allocation counter that increases each time an object is allocated to the heap memory, and the object identification of the allocated object is set to the allocation counter. When an object changes its zone, the object version number increases. The creation of the snapshot involves checking if the zone of the object is a zone of interest for a client and, if positive, checking if the zone and version of the object match the zone and version in the client state. Depending on the outcome, a delta is created between the object state on the server and the object state of the client or a zero state. This calculated delta and an offset of the position in the heap where the delta is to be applied are included in the snapshot.
