Abstract
Disclosed are a positive electrode and a rechargeable lithium battery. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode current collector, and a positive electrode active material layer on the positive electrode current collector. The positive electrode active material layer includes a first positive electrode active material layer adjacent to the positive electrode current collector, and a second positive electrode active material layer facing the positive electrode current collector with the first positive electrode active material layer interposed therebetween. The first positive electrode active material layer includes a first positive electrode active material and a first irreversible positive electrode additive. The second positive electrode active material layer includes a second positive electrode active material and a second irreversible positive electrode additive. An average particle diameter (D<50>) of the first irreversible positive electrode additive is larger than an average particle diameter (D<50>) of the second irreversible positive electrode additive.
