Abstract

Communication devices (10) exchange pieces of data each including an identifier. The identifier indicates a priority rank and is in a format of either a first format or a second format. When transmitted pieces of data collide, the communication device (10) executes an arbitration process of comparing the identifier included in first data it is transmitting and the identifier included in the other colliding second data. When the communication device (10) transmits data including the identifier in the second format and that data collides with other data, the communication device (10) executes the arbitration process while executing a correction process of correcting the identifier such that the data it is transmitting has a lower priority rank than the other data. When the communication device (10) transmits data including the identifier in the first format and that data collides with other data, the communication device (10) executes the arbitration process without executing the correction process.
