Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for providing a recycled plastics extrudate RE with a desired color value and color distribution from recycled plastics flakes RF comprising the following steps: providing a stream of recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF, measuring the color values of at least a part of the stream of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF and determining the color distribution from the measured color values, predicting the color values of the recycled plastics extrudate RE based on the measured color values of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF by applying a color prediction tool CPT, pre-adjusting the color values of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF by changing the color composition of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF to meet the desired color values of the recycled plastics extrudate RE by removing at least one color fraction of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF in at least one sorting unit from at least a part of the stream of the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF and/or by adding at least one color fraction of plastics flakes to the recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF during homogenization; homogenizing the color pre-adjusted recycled mixed-color plastics flakes RF; and extruding the color pre-adjusted recycled plastics flakes RF to obtain the recycled plastics extrudate RE with the desired color values while measuring the final color of the recycled plastics extrudate RE.
