Abstract

A printing apparatus suppressing damage to a leading end portion of a recording medium while suppressing the recording medium from falling off from a conveyance section. The printing apparatus includes: a conveyance section that conveys a recording medium in a conveyance direction in a state where a leading end portion of the recording medium is gripped and held by a gripping claw; a printing section that performs printing on the recording medium being conveyed; a gripping state detection section that detects a gripping state of the gripping claw with respect to an recording medium; and a determination section that determines presence or absence of abnormality in the gripping state of the gripping claw based on a detection result of the gripping state detection section.
