Abstract

ABSTRACT: To provide a safety device for vehicle seats that can adequately absorb the energy applied to the seat back. The safety device of the present invention includes a collision sensor for detecting vehicle collisions, an energy absorption mechanism for absorbing the impact applied to the vehicle seat, and a control mechanism for controlling operation or non-operation of the energy absorption mechanism based on the output of the collision sensor. The energy absorption mechanism 120 includes a rotatable plate 152 that rotates in conjunction with the rotation of the seat back of the vehicle seat, and a plastic deformation element 150 that is rotatably mounted together with the rotatable plate 152 and undergoes plastic deformation in conjunction with the rotation of the rotatable plate 152. In the event of the vehicle being in a collision, based on an activation signal from the control mechanism, the stopper unit 156 releases the connection between the worm wheel 118 and the rotatable plate 152, and energy is absorbed as the plastic deformation element 150 rotates and plastically deforms while passing through the insert element 154.
