Abstract
Described is a work island (1) for making rod-shaped segments (S) for the smoking article industry in a continuous process. The work island comprises a machine (100) for making a multilayer web (N) formed from at least one layer of plant-based reconstituted material and at least one reinforcing layer. This machine (100) includes a feed unit (50) for feeding a continuous reinforcing layer (R) which is fibre-based and/or made at least partly of a conductive material, a feed unit (10) for feeding a moist, plant-based material (M), a forming unit (20) which combines (M) and (R), and a drying unit (30) for removing moisture from the plant-based layer. Downstream, a machine (200) converts the multilayer web (N) into rod-shaped segments (S), operating in sequence relative to the machine (100).
