Abstract

A process for preparing a polyolefin composition comprising a first polyolefin and a second polyolefin material, wherein at least the first polyolefin material is derived from post-consumer and/or post-industrial waste. The process is carried out in a cascade extrusion process, and comprises the steps of supplying recycled polyolefin material to a first stage extruder and forming a molten first polyolefin material, which is processed under visbreaking conditions. The molten recycled polyolefin is fed to a second stage extruder downstream of a second polyolefin feed. Second polyolefin material is fed at a flow rate to the second stage extruder extruding the polyolefin composition in a pelletized form. The process comprises the steps of measuring the viscosity of the molten first polyolefin material and adjusting the temperature and/or SEI value of the first stage extruder in response to a difference between the measured viscosity and a pre-set target viscosity.
