Abstract

A dynamic security assessment predicts the dynamic behavior of operating points of a power network, subject to operator-defined contingencies. Generally, dynamic security assessments still require human interaction. Disclosed embodiments use machine learning to determine the value of a security indicator within a numerical range, in which one end represents instability and the other end represents stability. Not only does this enable automated, real-time dynamic security assessments, but it also enables the calculation of a proximity of the power network to instability, a speed at which the power network is approaching instability, and other insights. For increased accuracy of the machine-learning model, the security indicator may be determined at the bus level and/or contingency level.
