Abstract

Various aspects of systems, methods, and related aspects to generate a maxillofacial imaging volume with motion, from a three-dimensional (3D) extra-oral x-ray system, are described. One example technique includes: obtaining imaging data of a patient, captured during movement of an upper jaw and the lower jaw of the patient; establishing a motion model that defines an expected movement of the upper jaw relative to the lower jaw; segmenting the imaging data into at least an upper jaw segment corresponding to the upper jaw and a lower jaw segment corresponding to the lower jaw, based on the expected movement defined by the motion model; performing motion artifact correction separately on the upper jaw segment and the lower jaw segment; and outputting an imaging volume that includes an artifact-corrected representation of the upper jaw segment and an artifact-corrected representation of the lower jaw segment.
