Abstract

Methods and systems are provided for locating a medical device within vasculature. Methods and systems may include receiving a series of intravascular image frames captured along a portion of the vessel; extracting a plurality of longitudinal images from the series of intravascular image frames, each one of the plurality of longitudinal images sampled at a different angle. Methods and systems may include condensing each of the plurality of longitudinal images into corresponding longitudinal intensity values; averaging the longitudinal intensity values for each of the plurality of longitudinal images; deriving a series of intensity variation values based in part on the average longitudinal intensity values for each of the plurality of longitudinal images; identifying a longitudinal location along the portion of the vessel based on the series of intensity variation values; and outputting an indication of a frame of the series of intravascular image frames corresponding to the longitudinal location.
