Abstract

According to one embodiment, there is provided a method for controlling an electrolytic device (800) including a cathode electrode (2) that contains metal ions and reduces carbon dioxide, and an anode electrode (1) that oxidizes water to generate oxygen, the method including an acquisition step of acquiring information on a potential of the cathode electrode (2) and a potential of the anode electrode (1), and a control step of controlling the potential of the cathode electrode (2) or / and the potential of the anode electrode (1) such that the potential of the cathode electrode (2) is less than the potential of the anode electrode (1) when the potential of the anode electrode (1) is equal to or less than the potential of the cathode electrode (2).
