Abstract

A method for constructing a frame unit (10) is disclosed. Elongate beams (22; 32), extending outwardly of respective exterior plates (12; 14), are slid into respective elongate channels (26a, 26b; 36a, 36b) of an internal segment (16). Two opposing elongate walls (24a, 24b; 34a, 34b) of each respective elongate channel (26a, 26b; 36a, 36b) are compressed against the respective elongate beam (22; 32), in a direction perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the elongate channels (26a, 26b; 36a, 36b). The exterior plates (12; 14) are adhered to the internal segment (16) by heating the exterior plates (12; 14) and the internal segment (16) until the internal segment (16) is pliably deformed. The exterior plates (12; 14) and the internal segment (16) are subsequently cooled to ambient temperature. The exterior plates (12; 14) are formed of a first material, and the internal segment (16) is formed of a second material, different from the first material. A frame unit (10) constructed by implementing the method is also disclosed.
