Abstract

An assembly includes an engine core (30), a first propulsor rotor (22), a first power coupler (90) and a drive unit (32). The engine core (30) includes a compressor section (66), a combustor section (67), a turbine section (68), a flowpath (128) extending therethrough and a first rotating structure (88). The first rotating structure (88) includes a first turbine rotor (80) disposed in the turbine section (68). The first power coupler (90) is configured to operatively couple the first rotating structure (88) to the first propulsor rotor (22) during a first mode such that the first rotating structure (88) is configured to drive rotation of the first propulsor rotor (22) through the first power coupler (90). The first power coupler (90) is also configured to operatively decouple the first rotating structure (88) from the first propulsor rotor (22) during a second mode. The drive unit (32) is configured to drive the rotation of the first propulsor rotor (22) during the second mode.
