Abstract

An aircraft propulsion system (20) includes a core engine (25) that is configured to drive a propulsive fan (22), at least one electric machine (64, 66, 68) that generates thermal energy during operation, a thermal management system (62) that is configured to generate a lubricant flow (80) that accepts the thermal energy generated from the at least one electric machine (64, 66, 68), an oil tank (76, 78) that is configured to supply and store lubricant from the thermal management system (62), the oil tank (76, 78) includes a heat exchange surface (104) in thermal communication with a cooling flow (84) for cooling lubricant stored within the oil tank (76, 78), and a passage (82) that is configured to direct the cooling flow (84) to the heat exchange surface (104) of the oil tank (76, 78).
