Abstract

A combustion system (100) for a marine vessel is disclosed, comprising a combustion chamber (110), a burner (120) configured to inject, into the combustion chamber, a first combustible mixture to generate a first flame and a second combustible mixture to generate a second flame, and a fuel supply system (130) configured to provide a first fuel to the first combustible mixture and a second fuel to the second combustible mixture, wherein the second fuel is an ammonia-based fuel. The system further comprises a heating device (140) configured to heat at least some of the second fuel to a temperature allowing the second fuel to decompose into hydrogen and nitrogen, thereby increasing a hydrogen content of the second combustible mixture. The heating device is arranged at the burner and configured to transfer heat from the second flame to the second fuel.
