Abstract

There is described an acoustic black hole 'ABH' comprising a tapered body comprising an upstream end and a downstream end, the tapered body tapering from a first characteristic towards the upstream end to a second characteristic towards the downstream end, an actuator configured to apply an actuating force to the tapered body, at least one stress sensor configured to generate a signal corresponding to a stress on the tapered body, and a controller configured to control the actuator to apply the actuating force to a part of the tapered body, based on the signal generated by the at least one stress sensor.
